  • Hosting of the CPHD Forum meeting in Trinidad in 2016 and Dominican Republic in 2017.
  • The IS Trinidad Office in collaboration with the Greater Caribbean Safeguarding Initiative (GCSI), and the University of the West Indies Trinidad, hosted the Old World Bollworm Training, at the University of the West Indies in September 2017

  • An advance Mite training workshop was held in Jamaica in January 2013. Participants from nine countries were trained by Mrs. Juliet Goldsmith.
  • Fruit Fly Data Base workshop (May 27-28, 2013).
  • Regional training course on Geo Coding of Fruit Fly traps (September 9-13, 2013).
  • Regional Identification workshop in Grenada on Homopterain September 2013.
  • Publication of Caribbean Plant Health Directors Newsletter (April – June 2013).
  • The launch of the Fruit Fly Interface Data Base (pilot) on the CIASnet.org on April 2014.
  • The Prioritization of the Region’s Top 10 pests of Importance in July 2014.
  • Established virtual communication for the sharing of information via the D-Groups and website
  • Compiled the following Regional Lists –  Pest List, Palm Pest List,  Palm Pests not present in the Region List, Palm Pests that the Region needs to safeguard against List  and Priority Exotic Pest List

  • Continued expansion of membership beyond CARICOM Member States to include Non CARICOM Countries and entities.

Through collaboration with the USDA APHIS the CPHD Forum has achieved the following:

  • Train more than 200 technical personnel in the region in areas such as the identification of insect orders : Hemiptera/Homoptera, Coleoptera, Heteroptera, Lepidoptera, Thysanoptera, Molusks, Mites and plant diagnostics.
  • Provide diagnostic equipment to member states (Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Trinidad and Tobago) and increase video conferencing equipment to all IICA offices in the region.
  • Draft a Manual on Red Palm Mite
  • Complete the evaluation of the Fruit Fly trapping programme in the Caribbean region. Currently implementing several recommendations throughout the region.
  • Draft Manual on Fruit Fly Identification
  • Compiled data sheets for the identification, prevention, control and/or eradication of palm pests/diseases
  • Two officers from Member States were trained in the US and are now the region’s expert in Fruit Flies – Mrs. Alies van Sauers Muller and Mr. Paul Graham. The two experts have been spearheading training in the region. 15 countries have been trained to date.
