Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense Tropical race 4 (TR4) is a soil-borne fungus that is the greatest threat to the current global banana supply. The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) Secretariat in collaboration with contracting parties and experts launched a Fusarium TR4 workshop series that would highlight diagnostic, inspection, surveillance, and simulation exercises.

The TR4 diagnostic is critical to determining when to respond to pest alerts or an impending pest threat. This emphasizes the importance of using accurate, reliable, and reproducible techniques and methodologies.

The first of the three sessions in the series was held on March 25, which focuses on TR4 diagnostics. The second session of the workshop series is scheduled for 19 April 2022. It will focus on surveillance and early warning. The third session is scheduled for 10 May 2022, which will be based on inspection and simulation exercises.
