Entry of Red Palm Mite (RPM), into the Caribbean region in 2004 and Trinidad in 2006, reflections of impact of this Invasive Alien Species (IAS) in agriculture, lead to the Memorandum of Understanding between Indian Government and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and eventually, Dr. A. Sujatha, Principal Scientist (Entomology) has been deputed as an Indian Technical Economic Cooperation (ITEC) expert for one year to assist in the control of Red Palm Mite in Trinidad and Tobago.

Estimation of RPM damage, identification of pest and natural enemies, development of protocol for rearing of RPM, Amblyseius largoensis, a natural enemy of RPM and capacity building of staff are the major objectives of the project.
