The Fruit Fly Monitoring System was deployed in May 2014. Incorporated into this deployment was the training of representatives from each of the the participating countries. A two (2) day training workshop was held in Barbados  on May 22nd and May 23rd 2014 and was attended by representatives from the eight (8) countries:

  • Cayman Islands
  • Jamaica
  • Haiti
  • Barbados
  • British Virgin Islands
  • Dominica
  • St Vincent
  • Tobago

The representatives of each of the participating countries presented useful and informative content about the Fruit Fly Trapping programme in their countries such as:

  • An overview or history of the programme
  • Different Fruit Fly species currently present in the countries
  • Fruit Fly lifecycle
  • Control and Management of Fruit Flies
  • Distribution of Traps across the island with respect to each country
  • The types of traps used in the Trapping programme
  • The various hosts from which the traps are hung
  • The way forward in the programme
  • The benefits in capturing the Fruit Fly data
  • Any challenges in the Fruit Fly trapping programme
  • Accomplishments from the programme
  • The roles and responsibilities of the various divisions
  • Team members in the various Fruit Fly Trapping teams in each country
